VILCANOTA MOUNT AIN RANGE
AUSANGATE – SIVINACOCHA – PITUMARCA  ROUTE
9 DAYS / 8 NIGHTS

DAY 1
Cusco – Pacchnata

The time of departure is 5 am. On the journey we will see some of the towns on the outskirts of Cusco, and get to see the Vilconota river as we exit Cusco.
We pass the archeaological complex of Pikiyacta, where the Wari culture developed, and see towns such as Andahuaylillas and Huaro that have maintained their colonial architecture. In this region of diverse population you can see part of the Vilconota mountain range and the snow capped peaks of Ausangate as far as the Jampa pass, which dominate the landscape of Ocongate. After this traverse we arrive at the town of Tinki, which is the starting point for our hike to small diverse communities in the beautiful landscape of the high Andean plateaus. We will camp in Upis. An optional activity is enjoying the thermal baths.

DAY 2
Pacchanta – Jampa

Very early after breakfast we start hiking. On route we will be able to view the snow capped peaks of Jampa, Kolle Cruz, Salkantay and some small mountain lakes and herds of Llamas and Alpacas.

DAY 3
Jampa – Hacienda Killita (Killita Farm)

The hike is on a semi-plane in which we can appreciate typical farmhouses, Llamas and Alpacas in teñir natural pasture grounds as well as some mountain lakes (lagunas).

DAY 4
Hacienda Killita – Sivinacocha

Different from other days. On this day we ascend the to the snow capped pass of the Condor with an altitude of approximately 5,396 metres above sea level. Later in the day we hike over the semi-plane until we reach our campsite. This day is very beautiful. We will also see Vicuñas, a protected cameloid species, and see the biggest mountain lake on this trip (Sivinacocha).

DAY 5
Sivinacocha – Hacienda Oquemarca (Oquemarca Farm)

We start hiking in the direction of the Hacienda Oquemarca. We walk in the surroundings of the Lake for almost half a day, and later descend a little to reach our campsite.

DAY 6
Hacienda Oquemarca (Oquemarca Farm) – Huiluyo

After breakfast we hike through on a semi flat route where we will see sparse vegetation and some small communtities.

DAY 7
Huiluyo – Juchuy Llucllud

We descend through cultivated Inka terraces (3,950 metres above sea level) where will see the local inhabitants doing teñir daily farmwork. In the Sunday market we may get to see local people bartering for products (trueque in Quechua).

DAY 8
Juchuy Llucllud – Pitumarca

We continue to hike along the semi plane to reach the first Andean communities, where we will enjoy a “pachamanca” dish (food cooked in the earth), typical of this region.

DAY 9
Pitumarca – Cusco

After breakfast we board our transport for Cusco. On our journey we pass through various Andean villages before entering the city of Cusco.
