Maras – Moray – Salineras

The district of Maras is located 49 kms from the city of Cusco and has an altitude of 3,380 metres above sea level. Here we can appreciate the Sacred Valley of the Inkas and the Urubamba mountain range. This short and beautiful circuit is located very close to Cusco and offers the opportunity to observe attractive Andean landscapes and flora and fauna typical of this region.
DAY 1
You will be picked up from your hotel at 8 am and transported by bus to the district of Maras. En route we will see the site of the future International Airport of Cusco.We continue to the district of Maras for a brief visit to the outlying areas before continuing on to the complex of Moray. Here there are four depressions or large natural holes in the earth, also called Muyus, where stone was used to construct beautiful agricultural terraces. The largest depression is 45 metres deep and has terraces 1.80 m high. The complex was constructed during Inca times to conduct agricultural experiments. (guided tour with lunch or a picnic lunch). In the afternoon we return to the village of Maras and head for the Maras salt mines where we can appreciate centres of cultivation, pastures, Andean birds and visit the salt mines themselves. At this site we will get to see very impressive salt sediment pools, which help the economy oft the local population of Maras. At the indicated time we will board the bus and return to Cusco.
